Cows Create Careers is a highly popular, free, program that engages and educates young people about careers in the Australian dairy industry careers. Run by the experienced team at Jaydee Events, Cows Create Careers empowers teachers to explore the dairy industry with students from years 5 - 11 in a practical way. Even with limited experience in Agriculture, this program is easy to deliver due to the rigor nature of the program.
High school students build both technical and transferrable skills through raising a calf, undertaking research and projects aligned to the curriculum whilst being introduced to industry advocates who explain the variety of career opportunities in the dairy industry.
Cows Create Careers project objectives:
• Introduce students to the opportunities for both vocational and university pathways.
• Involve dairy farmers and industry advocates who have vision and dairy industry knowledge to encourage and support students with the project.
• Support students in making career decisions by providing and creating linkages to the education and employment sectors.
• Reward successful students and schools at a presentation and awards day.
What’s involved in the program?
• Dairy farmers delivering two calves for a 3-week period to the school.
• Supplies and curriculum materials provided to the school at no cost.
• An industry advocate talking to the students.
• Students working in teams of 2–5 to complete assessment tasks.
• A presentation and awards day.
• Media coverage throughout the project.
