This year we celebrate Healthy Bones Action Week from the 12 – 18 August 2024.
Primary school is a crucial time for Aussie kids to build strong bones for life and ensure their daily routine includes the three key steps to maintaining good bone health.
These three easy steps are:
- Consume milk cheese and yoghurt for calcium
- Exercise – Do weight bearing exercise
- Vitamin D – Get safe sunshine for vitamin D
Virtual Classroom sessions
To celebrate, Dairy Australia ran two Virtual Classroom sessions hosted by bone health specialist and University of Melbourne senior researcher Dr Sandra Iuliano.
In these live interactive sessions, Dr Sandra spoke to Prep – Year 7 students on how they can keep their bones healthy by following the three steps to building healthy bones.
Participating teachers were provided with a guide to support further learning and will also have access to Discover Dairy’s free curriculum resources. The resources feature a variety of engaging activities to build-upon the students’ learning from the Virtual Classroom sessions.
Did you know the smallest bone in your body is in your ear. It is known as the “stapes” and is less than half a centimetre in size!
