Happy World Milk Day! On the 1st of June we celebrate the passionate Aussie dairy farmers that supply us with high quality, nutritious milk every day. We recognise the importance of milk for good health and the dairy sector’s contribution to jobs, communities, and the economy.
Milk plays an important role in the growth and development of kids and is packed with more than 10 essential nutrients, including calcium which helps build strong bones and teeth. Milk is a good source of energy and protein.
Depending on their age and gender, school children and adolescents need between two-and-a-half and four serves of dairy foods every day for good health and well-being. However, according to Australia’s last national health survey it showed that 6 out of 10 Aussie kids are not getting enough dairy each day.
It is so important to educate students on the health and nutritional benefits of dairy as part of a balanced diet through these formative years.
Join Dairy Australia’s Amanda Menegazzo and our friend Healthy Harold from Life Ed in the kitchen this World Milk Day and create one of these tasty rainbow smoothies to get that extra serve of dairy in your day. Check out the video below
You can also check out our World Milk Day resources to educate your students on how milk is made and the important role milk plays in growth and development.
We would love to hear from you. Email us at schools@dairyaustralia.com.au and share with us what your school is doing to celebrate this special day.
